The Fibre: Rare, Luxurious, Responsible
Once every two years, our guanacos are sheared under calm, stress-free conditions. The fibre is then meticulously dehaired, separating the silken undercoat from coarser guard hairs. The result is a 12–18 micron fibre that is:
• Softer than cashmere
• Hypoallergenic and lanolin-free
• Naturally warm, breathable, and featherlight
• Perfect for hand spinning, felting, and artisanal textiles
This fibre is harvested in very limited quantities, making each purchase a rare treasure.
Farming with Purpose
Unlike traditional livestock, guanacos have minimal impact on the land. Their soft-padded feet protect the soil, and they graze selectively, preserving biodiversity. Our farming model is low-intervention, focusing on coexistence rather than control.
By choosing guanaco fibre, you're supporting a farm that values slow processes, honest materials, and a direct connection to the land and animals.
Handspun Yarn
Handspun by Murmuring Wheel in the Peak District. Each 25g skein is an average of around 90 yards of fingering weight, also known as superfine yarn. As a handspun item, the yardage is an average length. Create something truly special with this beautiful handspun yarn from our herd in the Peak District. Suitable for crochet or knitting, shawls, baby items or an heirloom piece.
Experience the rare luxury of guanaco yarn, ethically sourced from our small herd nestled in the rolling hills of the Peak District. Carefully hand-harvested and meticulously dehaired, patiently handspun this yarn offers exceptional softness — finer than cashmere, with a micron count as low as 12 microns.
Our guanacos are lovingly raised in a natural, low-stress environment where their well-being comes first. The result is a hypoallergenic, lanolin-free fibre that spins effortlessly into light, warm, breathable yarn. Ideal for knitting and crochet artists seeking something extraordinary and sustainable.
Each 25g skein is part of a limited seasonal harvest, available either in fawn or cinnamon shades — a truly local and luxurious choice for your next project.
